"FANTASIA" is a groundbreaking mixed-use development proposal for Frankfurt's Ostend/Pier F area, stemming from a thorough examination of architectural theories, notably Venturi's ideas on complexity and contradiction. Inspired by these concepts, the design incorporates pushed-in exterior courtyards between architectural elements to create dynamic spaces for interaction and visual interest. Through this innovative approach, "FANTASIA" challenges traditional notions of form and space, offering a vibrant urban experience reflective of contemporary European architectural discourse.

Mixed-use Industrial Redevelopment

The main entrance, situated on the southeast corner, provides access for both residents and visitors arriving by car. Parking is conveniently located on the east side near the southeast bridge. A secondary path on the west side offers secure access to the park from the northwest wing. This west pathway slopes down to connect with a ramp below, descending to a height of 4.5 meters, framing the building's view of the lake from the north side. On the opposite side, a mirrored ramp slopes up to the northeast, connecting to the parking area. The two ramps converge at the center of the site, where the volumes separate to create a gateway opening toward the river view.

Adaptive Design

The design of the building features four main volumes layered on top of each other. As you approach the east side of the structure, the height of the volumes and the 4.5m drop progressively lessen.

The first and last two floors of the building are mixed-use, featuring shops, a café, and live-work spaces. Levels -1 and 1 contain south-facing townhouses and live-work units, while the upper floors offer more varied live-work units. Some allow direct access from offices, others have separate office locations. Loft units on the roof will also serve as live-work spaces and include farming areas to create products and job opportunities for residents.
