The project is an individual entry for the Berlin Affordable Housing Competition, 2021-2022. This project reimagines the urban landscape of Berlin, paying homage to the city's rich land history and its legacy of Brutalist architecture. Brutalism, known for its stark, functional forms and raw concrete aesthetics, serves as the primary inspiration for this design. The project is a bold response to Berlin's ongoing housing affordability crisis, merging utilitarian principles with modern needs. The housing proposal not only addresses the practical aspects of affordable living but also enriches the architectural tapestry of Berlin, reflecting its historical and cultural evolution. The design aims to provide sustainable, accessible, and aesthetically striking housing solutions, reinforcing Berlin's identity as a city that continuously adapts and thrives amidst change.

SOLID & VOID RELATIONSHIP
BRUTALISM - DECOSTRUCTIVISM

Berlin has a complex history, shaped by the devastation of World War II and the division caused by the notorious Berlin Wall from 1961 1989. While it stands as one of Europe's most dynamic and lively cities, Berlin faces a significant shortage of affordable housing, making it less accessible compared many smaller cities in Germany. The separation of East and West Germany resulted in two distinctly different housing markets; state fully controlled the East, which, although affordable, saw minimal investment in the enhancement or development of housing units.

The project's collective arrangement strategy addresses the grid-based housing interventions and the anticipated availability of space, which is referred to as the housing challenge.
